St Patrick's Day, Simple Green Eyeshadow Tutorial & Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk Review.

Hello lovelies!

Happy St Patrick's Day! 'Tis a day to be wearing lots of green, speaking in a faux Irish accent (unless you're ACTUALLY Irish, of course, in which case you'd just speak normally), drinking green beer and eating lots of green goodies, to be sure, to be sure, to be sure!

I don't mean to be too blithe about it; St Patrick's Day is actually a Catholic festival meant to celebrate the life of St Patrick, who was a Briton captured by Irish raiders, and held in Ireland. He had a dream in which God came to him and told him to escape captivity, which he then did, returning to Britain and studying to be a priest. After he was ordained, he eventually moved back to Ireland, where he was known for using the shamrock to explain the concept of the holy Trinity to the Irish people. Incidentally, St Patrick's festival was actually associated with the colour of blue, but due to his fondness of using the shamrock, it eventually came to be associated with the colour of green.

I had meant to come up with a pretty green manicure to commemorate the occasion but I've decided to take the weekend off to just R&R (read more about that here), and so, I was quite elated when I looked through my backlog of unposted work and found this simple green eye look to share, which I created when I was experimenting with my Nyx jumbo eyeliner pencil in Milk. Apologies for the slight messiness, I was just experimenting and wasn't actually intending to post it until I finished and decided it actually didn't look too bad. Full details of products used provided below, together with a brief tutorial (if you're only interested in the Nyx jumbo pencil review, you can scroll straight to the bottom).

Products Used:
Brown shadow for brows (in hindsight, should've filled it in more and done a bit more grooming)

Nyx jumbo eye pencil in Milk
Inglot green-gold eyeshadow AMC shine #6
Inglot green eyeshadow trio M3
Maybelline master precise liquid liner in black
Maybelline Falsies waterproof mascara

The steps are actually very easy. Fill in your brows using a stiff angled brow brush and a shadow in a complementary shade. Then, take the Nyx jumbo eye pencil and run it all over the mobile lid, then use your finger or a brush, whichever preferred, to blend it out. Also use the Milk pencil on your lower waterline for added impact. Take the green-gold and gently pat it in the inner eye corner, then take the lightest green shade from the M3 compact and pat it over the rest of your mobile lid, stopping just at the crease. Take some of the green-gold shadow and gently pat some in the centre of your eyelid, before blending it into your base colour. Take the darkest green shade from the M3 palette and pat it on in the outer corner of your eye, then grab a blending brush to blend it all together in circular motions. Take a fine eyeliner brush and smudge some of the dark green shade under your lower lashline. Finish by drawing on a thin line on your upper lashline with liquid eyeliner, before curling your lashes and applying mascara.

NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk Review

Pros:

  • Stark white shade that's perfect for making shadows pop.
  • Easy to apply/work with; glides over your lid without tugging, and you can blend it easily provided you work with it before it sets (in a few seconds).
  • Moderately resistant to creasing once it sets, I get about 5 hours out of it before noticing any creasing if I don't use a primer underneath.
  • Easily used on the waterline without causing irritation (I use contact lenses).
  • Easy to remove.
  • Very affordable at $6.70.
Cons:
  • Not completely crease-proof without a primer underneath.
  • Not easily available from retail stores, but you can purchase online from Crush Cosmetics.
I hope you enjoyed the eye look/tutorial/review! Gosh, I really made this a multi-tasking post, didn't I?

Are you going to get up to much today, lovelies? If you dressed up or made yourself up to celebrate St Pat's day, do leave me a link in the comments so I can come by and check it out!

Much love,
MM.

Oops, I hauled again...

Hello lovelies,

Just a quick little post to show you all my haul which arrived yesterday! A week ago I was stalking visiting one of my favourite nail bloggers, More Nail Polish, and I noticed she had some gorgeous franken polishes for sale! So I sent her an email and asked if I could purchase two shades, and she threw in an extra mini bottle of the third shade for free when she mailed them to me! What a sweetheart! I completely love these polishes (I'm wearing one as I type this) and I'll be showing all of you how gorgeous they are in a post very soon (as soon as I can get some decent photos in daylight).

So I received three polishes from her yesterday, and also my shipment from Crush Cosmetics! I have been looking for some really colourful eyeshadows, and the Beauty UK ones caught my eye as they were really affordable (at $8 each, win!). I also wanted to buy a couple of blushes so I put them all in the same order and Crush threw in an additional liner/shadow palette for free! Very, very happy with customer service, it all arrived within 2 days of ordering and I only paid $9.20 for express shipping. Plus, the shadow/liner palette isn't even on sale yet!

Let's have a look at some photos!

The polishes arrived in perfect condition, wrapped in lots of bubble wrap!
(Thank you so much, Kathy, I love them!)

Crush Cosmetics shipment

Wrapped well in bubble wrap with foam beads for extra padding.

The complete haul! L-R: Nyx bronzer/blush combo in Sunrise in Bali,
Beauty UK shadow/liner palette in Amazon, Sleek blush in rose gold,
Beauty UK palette #6 in Soho Bright and Beauty UK palette #2 in
Day and Night.

Nyx bronzer/blush combo in Sunrise in Bali on the left,
Sleek blush in rose gold on the right.

Top left: Day and Night, top right: Soho Bright,
Bottom: Amazon palette.

I've already tried both blushers and they are gorgeous...the casing for the Sleek blush is beautiful, it's luxe and really, well, sleek! The only downside is it is slightly hard to open so you have to be careful not to break a nail. The Nyx bronzer is really sheer, which is surprising, but goes on very smoothly and the blush is simply gorgeous on!

I had a bit of a play around with the pinks from the Day and Night palette and thought I'd share this look. The pastel pink is quite pale and isn't very pigmented, so I applied it using a wet brush. The darker pink is really pretty and very pigmented, and it applies like a dream!

Apologies for the photo quality, I had to use flash as the lighting in my flat is terrible, and my skin looks really sallow and very shiny! I assure you it's not what it looks like normally!

With flash.

Without flash, just to prove I wasn't shiny and yellow, lol.

Without flash.

There you have it! The palettes are excellent value and I'm so happy I bought them. Have you tried Beauty UK before? Are you going to?

Much love,
MM.

Nyx Haul!!!

*SQUEAL*

Just a quick update to say my Nyx (and Milani) haul has arrived from Cherry Culture!! Everything arrived beautifully packaged and well padded. Shipping was fairly quick too. I ordered on the 20th of October, it was processed and shipped by the 22nd and I received it today on the 31st! Not too shabby, I'd say!

In light of the recent jelly glitter craze I looked around here in Melbourne but couldn't find anything that met with my requirements so I purchased 6 Nyx glitter girl polishes from Cherry Culture! I also purchased 3 Milani polishes (including a dupe for Deborah Lippman's Happy Birthday multihued glitter polish), 2 Nyx black label lipsticks, 1 Nyx round lipstick,1 Nyx jumbo eye pencil and last but not least, a Nyx jumbo lip pencil. :)

Swatches to come soon but have a look at these to tide you over!

Update: I have just discovered that all the polishes are in perfect condition, except for Gilded Glitter, which is the main reason I put in the order in the first place! The lid is sealed shut and I just can't get it open. This is so disappointing as I'd hate to have to put in a new order just to get my Gilded Glitter! Fingers crossed it all works out!

Second update: I am really disappointed with the Cherry Culture customer service. It took 3 and a half months to sort out ONE faulty bottle of nail polish. They asked me to post it back to them and promised that I would receive store credit for the cost of shipping. I sent them several emails, including proof/receipts of postage, and yet they insisted I would have to wait until they received the product before I could choose several items in lieu of the defective one, and guess what, I received a parcel yesterday with only a single replacement bottle of Gilded Glitter in it. Very, very disappointed that it took 3.5 months to resolve and I wasn't even accredited with the store credit I was promised. I definitely won't be purchasing from them again.
