Product Review: L'Oreal Paris | Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick (and swatches).

Hello lovelies!

First of all, a big thank you for all the positive comments and kind words on my new blog template! Your support really means so much to me!

I'd like to share my thoughts on the new L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-step longwear lipstick. These are quite new to the Australian market, having launched just last month.

L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-step Longwear Lipstick.

According to L'Oreal, these lipsticks combine hyaluronic gel, high-intensity pigments and illuminating balm to provide 24-hour colour and comfort, for a just-applied finish.

Keep reading after the jump!

L'Oreal Paris Infallible 2-step Longwear Lipstick.

Available in 14 different shades, there's a shade to suit all preferences. These double-ended lipsticks have a liquid lipstick on one end (marked as 1) and a clear, moisturising balm on the other end (marked as 2).

The idea is to apply the liquid lipstick with the doe foot applicator provided, wait for it to dry, and then apply the balm on top to lock in the colour and provide added moisture.

I was kindly provided with five shades for review purposes, namely:

#113 - Invincible Sable (creamy beige nude)
#110 - Timeless Rose (soft rose pink)
#404 - Coral Constant (bright coral pink)
#209 - Violet Parfait (dusky blue-violet)
#121 - Flawless Fuchsia (bright pink)

L - R: #113 - Invincible Sable, #110 - Timeless Rose, #404 - Coral Constant,
#209 - Violet Parfait, and #121 - Flawless Fuchsia.

#209 - Violet Parfait, and #121 - Flawless Fuchsia.

The liquid lipsticks have a thin and slick consistency, which is why they appear a bit streaky in my swatch photos below, but they are actually streak-free when applied directly on your lips.

The liquid lipstick applies really easily with the doe foot applicator provided; pigmentation is good and the tip of the application is pointed enough that you can easily trace it over the contours of your lips. Like most liquid longwear lipsticks, it's pretty slick when first applied, but sets into a slightly tacky finish once dry.

That's your cue to apply the moisturising balm on the other end of the lipstick! I expected some of the colour to rub off on the balm stick, but surprisingly, none did!

The balm seals in the colour for a soft, glossy finish, and keeps your lips feeling hydrated. The longwear lipstick feels quite drying when first applied, but the balm turns it into a smooth, soft finish that's so comfortable to wear, you can forget you're wearing it!

I didn't get lipstick transferring to my cup when I took a drink, but I do find that I need to top up the balm after a couple of hours, or my lips start to feel dry again. They also last for about 10-12 hours on me, but it does depend on how frequently I top up on the balm. These lipsticks are also unscented, which can be quite important to those who are sensitive to scents.

These are perfect for wearing on days where you know you will be doing a fair bit of talking/drinking/eating (or kissing), but won't have many opportunities to touch up your lipstick.

Perfect for me as I always get a little bit embarrassed drinking from a takeaway coffee cup in public and leaving lipstick stains all over the lid! Oh, the hazards of working in a male-dominated industry!

Handy tip: I also like using these as a base and applying a creamy lipstick on top, it adds a depth of colour and I'm still left with a pretty stain when the top layer wears off.

The only (slight) drawback to this product is the price. These babies retail at $29.95, which is a little expensive, but are currently on sale for $5 off at Priceline, bringing the price down to $24.95. These are available at standard L'Oreal Paris stockists, including Big W, Kmart, Myer, Coles, Woolworths, Target and selected pharmacies.

What do you think of these, lovelies, do they strike your fancy? Which shade(s) do you like the most? Do you get embarrassed at seeing lipstick prints on your coffee cup?

Much love,
MM.

  1. Haha (or kissing) hahahaha. These sound great! I can't believe nothing transferred onto the balm. I love me a good long wearing lip product so I may pick up one of these at some point... I may wait for a better sale though :)

  3. These sound and look lovely! But the price is so off-putting! :'( I will definitely be waiting until there's a good sale on to pick any of the shade up!

  4. I like the idea of the balm locking in the colours, is the gloss sticky?

    1. It's more like a liquid lipstick...it goes on smooth and slick and dries to a tacky sort of finish, that's when you know it's set, and you have to apply the balm. Does that make sense?

  5. I got one of these free with my DDGDaily order, I had no idea what it was! I swiped it on the back of my hand and it stayed all day - even when I washed my hands, it was almost scary! I got a pretty coral shade and I love it :)

  6. Hmm these look interesting, great review. I hate it when my lipstick gets onto my lip balm and makes it look terrible! I get embarrassed for anyone to see my lip balm..
I might try one of these out if it comes on sale!

  9. Thanks for the great review... I like the Coral Constant the best:) it's a shame that they so pricey, think I would wait until they are discounted more to pick one up.
How do they compare to the LÓreal Caresee lip shine glosses? I don't find them moisturising enough for me.
I like the fact that these don't transfer onto cups etc, my hubby is always complaining that our glasses and cups still have my kisses on them after going through the dishwasher .

    1. My pleasure, Claire! Great choice, Coral Constant is so pretty.

These are definitely more moisturising since you put the balm on top! I'd say that it should be more friendly towards your glasses and cups. :)

  10. Ooh I love your review on these but it's so expensive D: I'd be all over them if they were priced similarly to Revlon lip butters or kissable balm stains.

    1. True, but since they wear longer than the Revlon ones you might get better cost per wear out of these?

They are a little expensive though, I agree.

  12. I remember I used to have a Maybelline lipstick that was pretty much the same concept. Do they sell extra refills for the balm part?

I'm embarassed by lipstick stains on my coffee to at uni! :P

    1. I don't think so! But I would imagine it would take a while before you use up the balm stick anyway.

We're definitely on the same wavelength!

  13. Hey coco, if you were to wear it on a daily basis do they dry your lips out? I love a long lasting lippie but not drying ones!

    1. I don't wear them every single day, hun! I have wayy too many lipsticks on rotation to wear the same one every day.

I would think, though, that if you make sure to use them with the balm, and be sure to cleanse it off at night and put a really moisturising lipbalm on, you should be good to go. :)

      I hope that helps!

  15. I love the idea of them because long-lasting lippies are so handy to have. The colours are beautiful too, but I do think the price is a little too expensive. Out of the five shades you've shown I like shade 121 the best:) xxx

  16. I saw my Mum today, who is nearly 70.. and she was wearing a dark Revlon colour I had picked up for her... surprisingly, in all the time we were together she didn't need to refresh... it was a colour-last product. She has very prominent teeth, and so is an excellent test subject for lippies! If it comes off on her teeth, it is a fat fail for length of stay and wear :)
But condition.. the chances of good condition (and she lives in a VERY cold region) and colour combined are slim.. I am dead keen reading this, to go and fetch one for her to see what she thinks...
I think the price is higher end, which would put her off trialing one, but it is what she pays for her faves, so worth it if it works for her (and obviously I get to try it quick as well ;) )

I hope you managed to get some! I know the price is pretty high but on the plus side, it should last a fair while.

  17. I just got into these and the price has come down about $10, which is good. I love them! My only thing is that I sometimes have trouble controlling the product when applying it. Any suggestions?
