Introducing Playboy Five Shades of Grey - Velvet Party Collection!

Hi lovelies,

Everyone has heard of the famous Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy; which, incidentally, I didn't actually find particularly interesting, did you? Anyhow, I digress. While I knew that Playboy make some lovely body sprays (which I'm totally addicted to spraying on after my shower and before applying perfume), I didn't know they had polishes in their range! I couldn't resist when I was offered the chance to try them, so here are five gorgeous shades from the Velvet Party Collection, aptly titled, Five Shades of Grey*!

Playboy Five Shades of Grey - Velvet Party Collection

Each of the shades have been given a sexy Slavic name, which is pretty apt as some of the shades are simply stunning, dark and mysterious, much like something a spy would wear (my imagination might be getting a wee bit carried away here). Word of warning, this is going to be a very photo heavy post, so pull up a chair and get comfy, as I take you through the five shades of grey from the Playboy range.

Keep reading after the jump!

Playboy - Five Shades of Grey.
L-R: Anastasia, Susanah, Izabella, Leila and Elena.

First up, we have Anastasia, a simple, basic black. Out of all the bottles, I probably had the most trouble with this shade. Something about the brush just wouldn't quite paint the polish right, but the formula is still really easy to work with and you get opaque, solid colour in 2 thin coats. I won't spend too much time on this as it's quite a basic colour, so I'll only share one photo of this.

Quite frankly, I fell in love with Susanah as soon as I saw it! This is a really unique polish that reminds me a little of OPI Spark de Triomphe. With tiny silver, red, green and platinum microglitter, this one really packs a punch in sunlight, and seems to change colour based on the lighting. I used three thin layers for opacity, but you could still see a little bit of my nail bed peeking through in direct sunlight. The texture was similar to the OPI liquid sands, and removal was surprisingly manageable.

Izabella is another shade that caught my eye immediately. This is a smokey bronzy brown that looks even more amazing in real life than it does in the photos below. Application for this was a dream and I could have gotten away with a single coat. Izabella is a fantastic winter shade.

Leila is a frosty, metallic silver that also has amazing opacity. This is another shade that could be a one coater, but I used two out of habit. This polish is what it would look like if you dipped your nails in aluminium foil.

Last but not least, my other favourite in the collection, Elena! This is a beautiful concrete grey in the bottle that deepens to a blue-grey with a second coat. Another gorgeous shade that calls to mind a cold winter's day!

I hope you enjoyed this post, lovelies! I was really impressed with the quality of these polishes!

Each bottle contains 10 ml of polish, with the whole set retailing at $19.99. The collection is available for purchase from Chemist Warehouse stores nationwide as of July 2014. Readers from the UK, I have sussed out a few places you could purchase online, including here and here!

What do you think of this collection, lovelies? Did you even know that Playboy have polishes? I can't begin to tell you how many compliments I got wearing Elena, Izabella and Susanah, which is your favourite?

Much love,
MM.

    1. Aw, thanks so much, Fili...that means so much to me as I love photography! I think you can take great photos with a simple camera, provided that composition, lighting and focusing work out right. The photos are not edited at all, with the exception of cropping and resizing. :)
