piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013!

Hello lovelies!

Welcome to a very special post, piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013! This year's theme is 'Celebrating the year of the blogger', which is all about celebrating bloggers and what they do!

If you haven't come across it before, Blog Fest is the annual celebration hosted by piCture pOlish where bloggers from all around the world come together on the same day (this year it's the 29th of July) and post reviews of piCture pOlish shades. Although Blog Fest is usually the same day that new shades are released (and reviewed on the blogs), piCture pOlish are doing things a bit differently this year...instead of releasing new shades, they sent all participating bloggers three existing shades and challenged them to come up with a nail art look, complete with tutorial.

I was sent Coral Reef, Whimsy and Beige, and here's what I came up with:

My nail art submission for piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013.

Keep reading after the jump!

To get this look, you only need three different shades of nail polish, a fan brush, cotton buds, base coat and top coat (not pictured).

piCture pOlish Whimsy, Coral Reef and Beige, as well as a fan brush and cotton bud.

Step 1 Begin by priming all your nails with a good base coat.

Step 2 Next, paint each nail a pale shade to act as your base shade, I chose Beige for this step and used two coats. Be sure to wait a good amount of time for each nail to dry properly, if you move on too quickly to the next step and your base shade isn't dry, you risk ruining the entire look (handy tip: you can also fast forward the process by using a quick dry topcoat like Poshé or Seche Vite).

Step 2

Step 3 Get the remaining two bottles of polish and have them open and ready to work with, as you'll need to work quickly for the next two steps. Working finger by finger, paint one stripe in the centre of each nail (I used Whimsy for this stage). You don't need to be too precise.

Step 3

Step 4 Without waiting for the stripe from Step 3 to dry, quickly paint a second stripe on just within the first stripe (I used Coral Reef for this one). Make sure that you don't cover the first stripe completely.

Step 4

Step 5 Moving quickly, move the fan brush over both stripes, smearing the stripes horizontally in a linear pattern over the nail. You might need to repeat this a couple of times in both directions until you're happy with the coverage over each nail. You might like to clean the fan brush by rubbing it over a piece of cotton wool soaked in nail polish remover before moving on to the next nail. Don't worry if you get polish residue on your cuticles, we'll tidy it up at a later stage.

Step 5

Step 6 Repeat steps 3-5 for each nail, working nail by nail, until you've completed all ten fingers.

Step 7 You might notice a little polish residue on your cuticles. Dip a cotton bud in nail polish remover and gently clean up the residue from around your cuticles.

Step 8 You can skip this step if you prefer a more textured finish, but I chose to seal my manicure with topcoat to protect the look.

The finished look!
